Valby Vandkulturhus, Denmark
Architect: Nøhr and Sigsgaard Architects
Client: Københavns Kommune
Valby Vandkulturhus is not like the usual rectangular swimming pool. Leaning walls and asymmetrical lines is repeated both inside and outside - creating dynamic spaces that challenge the senses and sets out to play.
Nøhr and Sigsgaard Architects designed splash paradise that on two floors welcomes you to play, exercise and relax.
On the ground floor you can romp in the playground and the paddle pools, from which emerges a water world with slide, counter-current channel, water staircases, water tunnels and a cave with colored lights. First floor is devoted to wellness. Here you can relax in a hot tub, relieving sore muscles in the infrared sauna, enjoy the view of Valbyparken from the panoramic sauna and relax in the aroma sauna with essential oils in the air.
Through innovative solutions the building consumes 25% less energy than a conventional swimming pool.
