‘World of Inspiration’ is the theme of Material Xperience 2012, to be held from 25 to 27 January in Rotterdam. This edition of the annual event is centered around the exciting opportunities that internationalization presents to designers and architects. As a result of internationalization, worldwide interaction increases. New techniques and developments quickly reach global markets. This process of globalization raises the need for international regulation in order to harmonize commerce, the environment and safety. Internationalization can also provoke a conservative feeling: we want to protect our culture and identity. How does this affect the design of the world that surrounds us? Fusion, retro, contemporary, high tech, craftsmanship, local: not just the designer, but also the manufacturer determines this image. The theme is covered in lectures by inspiring international speakers and a special exhibition on the renewed interest in craftsmanship. The special exhibition ‘Craftsmanship’ will show examples of the contemporary mixture of crafts, tradition and technology in product design and architecture. Furthermore, the event presents innovative and inspiring materials from selected partners. Material Xperience 2012 takes place from 25 to 27 January, simultaneously with Gevel 2012 in Ahoy, Rotterdam.
